So first off---Jessica Gueco, who I was pimping in the last post, did indeed win the contest and is here in Dallas currently for Twicon. Yay! Good for her-she's supercute and interesting-glad my/our? (did any of you vote?) paid off (More on Twicon momentarily)!
With that being said--with all of the Twilight nonsene not showing any signs of slowing down-and indeed seeming to be growing more everyday--my lameness, so I thought, has also been growing. Now, I really like the books (see previous posts and previously promised posts that never happened-another point towards my lameness...or perhaps just laziness) and I liked the movie okay- but none of this can explain why I continue to follow Twilight related blogs (although I have to say Whattheforks.wordpress.com is really funny..and twilighheaded.com is pretty funny too--both I should point out are run by full-fledged adult women) and get all silly excited when I see something about the books or movies online or in Entertainment Weekly etc. I really don't get it. But, it's there. I'm a big lame Twitard (thanks twitarded.blogspot.com for that term!--yeah, that's another one I follow--see, it's kind of a problem). I think it's all about escapism--it's not fine literature...it's certainly not fine movie making...but it's entertaining. And, there are vampires...and I loves me some vampires. All kinds. But, in all honesty--I should hate everything else about it (shoddy writing, appeals to a younger crowd, on the surface it's all about the damsel in distress, etc). But I don't. Again, this is why I'm superlame.
Why I'm perhaps not as a lame as I thought is that I started to check out the updates from Twicon and damn. Just, damn. First of all--I have absolutely no idea who about 90% of the "special guests" are, aside from the cast members. There are references to videos and blogs, etc that I'm like, what the deuce are they even talking about. And, finally, I made fun of about every picture I saw online. Most heartily at the "hand model" from the Twilight Cover. Yes, this bitch is at a convention-charging for pictures with her hands and autographs...written with those hands-BAHAHAHA! All I could think of was the episode of Friends where Joey finds his hand twin and wants to find a way to make money off it. It's just about that ridiculous. Not that making fun of things makes me any less lame-it just says I'm mean (but who didn't know that on some level?). But, it does help me come back from the downward lameness spiral that I felt myself in and I started to feel better. Like, wow, I really am not that big of a fangirl next to these people. I'm basically a casual fan in comparison. PHEW! Again, superlame...but perhaps not nearly as bad as I thought (shut your face Bizzy and Charlie!). Thanks Twicon for making me feel better about myself! <Thumb's Up>
RELATED SIDE NOTE: So, we're at Grapevine last night...me, Biz, Henry, Shruti, and Lance and these 3 girls w/ wigs walk in (like a purple one, and a long blonde one, etc). I make a snarky comment that they're probably from Twicon (again, I'm just mean) - and Shruti says, "Ugh, I don't even know why anyone likes that stuff anyway...Twilight...pssht." (I paraphrased a bit-mostly the "pssht")...Bizzy responds, "I don't know either-ask Molly!" Poor Shruti turned about 3 shades of embarassed-dropped her mouth open and started apologizing over and over. I was like really, it's so fine. It was just very cute-she was convinced she had offended me to my core.
